Wine with Chocolate...
It is
notoriously difficult to find the right wine to with chocolate... So here
are our favourite recommendations. But before we go any further, a word about
chocolate. We're not the first people to mention this, but where chocolate is
concerned the higher the Cocoa content the better.
Here in Oxfordshire we are very lucky to have one of the UK's top
Chocolaterie (chocolate-makers to you and me!), Nigel Rumsey. Nigel is an award
winning chocolate-maker, and together with his wife Mary, has recently opened a
new chocolate shop near Aylesbury. Each Christmas we have stocked Nigel's
delicious and utterly decadent chocolates - and we are about to sell them
online for the first time. Watch this space!
Now,
what to drink with your favourite chocolate pudding?
 |
- Campbells Rutherglen
Muscat
This rich and fortified Australian Muscat has the
wonderful attribute of, although being unquestionably sweet, very good and
balancing acidity. This stops the wine, and indeed the whole partnership, being
too cloying. Great stuff!
- Elysium Black Muscat,
Andrew Quady
The first of two wines from Californian dessert
winemaker Andrew Quady. This Black Muscat is simply sensational with chocolate,
replete with its hint of rose petals and almost chocolate richness. Once again,
the secret with this wine is that, although sweet, it has plenty of balancing
acidity.
- Essencia
Organge Muscat
Made from an unusual clone of the Muscat grape
variety with distinct flavour of oranges in it. Chocolate and orange is a
brilliant combination, so his is a real whiz to bring out with your favourite
chocolate pud.
